Applying blush the right way! - Blush 101

I decided to dedicate this post to the proper way of applying blush, because I often see too many mistakes. First of, your blush should begin at the hairline and end at the corner of the eye, or where the cheekbone curves upward. Never bring the blush too far forward on the cheekbone, stop at the corner of the eye.
Blushes are available as powders, creams, and gels.

Powder Blush- Begin at the back of the cheekbone near the hairline. Then in small circular motion, move the brush from the back of the cheekbone to the front.  Build the color slowly.

Cream Blush-  Cream blush is great for drier skin and when you want a sheer color. The placement should be the same as the powder blush. Always apply cream foundation before powdering your face. If you have already powdered your face then the cream blush will streak. Also, make sure that you blend the blush and there are no hard edges.

Gel Blush- Most gel blushes are transparent. This type of blush can be used when a no make-up look is desired and you just want a natural color on the cheeks. When using gel blush it is best if you do not use any type of powder on your face because it will clump when mixed with a gel. Gel blushes that are water based dry quickly, so they are not recommended for dry skin. You follow the same application as the others.

Selecting the color

Fair skin- use colors such as light peach, apricot, soft pink, and rose.
Medium skin- Use coral, soft beige, warm rose and plum.
Dark skin- Need more intense and deeper colors. Therefore, use colors such as, brick, rust, orange, dark plum, and berry.

Common Mistakes when applying blush

Mistake- Blush comes too far forward.
Effect- Gives the effect of pulling the face down

Mistake- Too high on the cheekbones
Effect- This will flatten the face. Instead the blush should be placed in the middle of the cheekbone, giving the cheek dimension.

Mistake- Too low on the cheekbone
Effect- This will make your cheekbone seem lower than it naturally is.

Mistake- Too much color on the cheeks
Effect- This makes you stand out and not in a good way. It takes over your face, making others ignore your natural beauty. It also makes you look older.

Mistake- Not blending the blush well
Effect- If you do not blend the blush well then this will make the blush look like a stripe and will not look soft. To get a soft look remember to blend in a circular motion.

Until next time,
The wicked
