Makeup Tips for your Special Day!- Wedding

So I know many people get married in these upcoming months since it's getting warmer. Here are some tips for your makeup: 

Wedding makeup is simple and neutral for the most parts, however, it is one of the hardest makeup looks to do because it has to looks perfect in person and on camera the entire day. It has to survive hugs, kisses and tears! 

The goal is to bring out your best features. 

Foundation: 

It is very important that you try your foundation before that day. You will be able to see how your skin looks throughout the day. Most imporantly, take a photo with the foundation on because every foundation reflects light differently. This is why sometimes people's face looks whiter than the rest of their body in photos. Therefore, take a photo with flash and no flash and even in natural lighting if possible. 

Of course you should be wearing a face primer before applying your concealer and foundation. If you have oily skin apply transluscent powder lightly over your foundation. 

Highlight:

You do not want to skip highlight on this day, this will give you that natural glow especially in the photos because it will attract the light. Apply highlight to the top of your cheekbones, and near the tear duct.

Try something like MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish or my favorite MAC's Iridescent loose powder (Silver Dusk for a cool skin tone and Golden Bronze for a warmer skin tone) 

Blush: 

Try a peachy pink color to add a natural color to your cheeks. NARS Blush in Orgasm is a great example and works with many different skin tones.

Eyes: 

Wear an eye primer to help your eyeshadow stay in place throughout the day, this will avoid any creasing. 

Mascara must be waterproof to avoid looking like a raccon. I recommend Make Up For Ever's waterproof smokey eye mascara. This works great!!! And does not come off.

You will also want to add some natural looking false lashes to make your eyes stand out especially in the photos. In photos natural lashes tend to disapear therefore, adding some false ones will help bring out your eyes. 

Lips:

You will need a lip liner to help your lipstick stay and place and avoid it from bleeding. Your lipstick should be long lasting.

Makeup tips & quick fixes!!

Wearing lipstick with chapped lips-

Apply a lip balm like Aquaphor and then apply the color. Also, stay away from long wear lipstixks because they tend to dry your lips. 

Overplucked eyebrows 

Get a pencil that matches your brow color, and fill in your eyebrows. Use an angled brush or a clean mascara wand to blend the color in. The key is to follow your natural shape and avoid harsh lines.

Covering a tattoo
You need a heavy concealer that will match your skin tone and will cover your tattoo as well. Some colors will be harder to cover so you may want to try the concealer before buying it. Use a makeup sponge to then cover the tattoo by blotting it. After you have covered it make sure it blends with the surrounding skin. Apply a translucent powder to set the concealer. You may also apply a bit of foundation before setting it with the powder. 

Freshen mascara
If you are in a rush and want to freshen your mascara use a disposable mascara wand and dip it in a eye makeup remover. Then comb through your lashes to remove any clumps. Once your lashes dry apply the mascara. 

Dark circles after removing makeup 

Sometimes after getting out the shower you may still have some mascara or eyeliner. Try using a eye makeup remover or even a moisturizer to remove that makeup. 

Dark eyelids

Apply concealer on your eyelid not just under your eye. Then use a champagne or a eyeshadow that is close to your skin tone, this will brighten your eyes.

Look younger not older!

Makeup mistakes that make you look older! 

Avoid These:

Heavy concealer under the eyes 

You should not have to pack on concealer to hide your dark circles. If you have to put on layers of concealer to hide your dark circles then that's saying you should try another concealer. Getting the right concealer is sometimes hard because each person has a different problem, skin type/shade. Therefore, keep in mind that just because it works on someone else doesn't mean it will work on you.

I will make a separate post in greater detail in order to give you some direction on what to look for.

Lighter foundation 

Using a lighter foundation than your natural skin will actually highlight any fine lines and wrinkles you may have. A foundation that has a light reflective formula will actually make your skin look younger and will add that extra glow.

Packing on powder

Powder is great for oily skin or to set your makeup. However, if you have fine lines or wrinkles too much powder will emphasize them especially around the eye. Too much powder will also eliminate that natural glow and shine your skin has, and will then make your skin look dry and older. Try using a translucent powder like Make UP For Ever's HD translucent powder.

If you have oily skin and have to use powder, try using a setting spray after. I absolutely love MAC's Fix spray it really get's rid of that powdery look and makes your skin feel great.

Harsh lip liner and brown lipstick

If you overdo the lip liner you will have a harsh look and you will look older. If you are going to wear lip liner make sure your lips have color too, not just an outline of your lips. Having a darker lip liner than your lip color is a thing of the 80s, so let's move on. Lip liner is not meant to be used as your lip color, it is meant to define your lips and avoid your lip color from bleeding. Instead match your lip liner with your lipstick.

Also , avoid brown colors because they will not compliment you and will also bring out the yellow in your teeth.

Makeup tips for pale/fair skin

Having fair skin can be a little tricky to deal with. However, once you get the right products and colors, you will look great. 

Pale skin is very transparent around your areas like your eyes, therefore you may able to see little blood vessels. 

Foundation can be a bit of a challenge when trying to find your best match because most brands don't have very light foundations. If you wear a foundation that is too dark it may end up looking orange  or like you are wearing a mask. Therefore, you may find it easier to find a tinted moisturizer, one with a yellow based would be great because it will minimize the red in your skin. Also try to get one that contains SPF because the lighter your skin, the more prone to aging and wrinkling it is. 

For concealer, use a yellow based one on your dark circles in order to minimize the redness caused by the little blood vessels. 

Blush should not be too bright because it will not complement your skin. Instead try pink and apricot blushes. They will look natural and will make your skin look delicate and soft. 

For your eyes try shimmer eyeshadows in natural colors to add warmth to your face for a daytime look. Try cool tones like grey, navy, lavender also a soft smokey eye will look great on your skin. 

You can have fun with pink and red lipsticks because they look great on fair skin. For a more natural look try light pinks and nudes.

Makeup Mistakes that Age You

Apply make-up can be a tricky thing to do when you don't know what you are doing. Make-up is suppose to enhance your natural beauty, however when applied incorrectly you make look older or worse with makeup. 

Avoid the following mistakes: 

Heavy concealer

Concealer can be your best friend or your enemy. As you age your skin starts sagging and wrinkling, therefore applying layers of concealer will actually emphasize these flaws. The reason is because the concealer will get and build in between the fine lines and wrinkles, making them show more. In order to avoid this problem chose a concealer that is light in texture, apply it with a fine brush and blend with a sponge or your finger. Be very careful not to apply too much around your eyes!!

Wrong foundation

This goes for everyone! Choosing the right foundation might require a few trials but once you find it, you'll love it. When looking for a foundation some people just look for the right color, however, this is completely wrong. You must first decide on the coverage, finish and type of foundation you want to use (I have done previous post about each of these topics). 

A VERY common mistake that I see too often is women trying to match their foundation color on the back of their hand or wrist. Never do this! Your face is not the same color or texture. Instead you should always try to match the foundation along your jaw and at the bottom of your cheeks. The reason is because your neck is sometimes a different shade, by placing the foundation along your jaw you will see if it matches your face and neck. It is not very appealing to have a white neck and dark face or vice versa. 

Too much blush

I tend to see this mistake a lot, too much blush, wrong color and applied too low. Your blush should brighten and lift your face. However, if you apply it too low, meaning close to your jaw, then your face will look droopy. Also, you should find a color the flatters you, don't choose any blush. Darker skin can use brighter colors, however if you have light to medium skin stick to shades that will look more natural. Also, Blend, Blend, Blend!!!!! Harsh lines will make you look older. 

Powder Overload

There is a difference between glowing and greasy skin, which may be hard explaining and understanding. However, many women who have oily skin try to control the skin by applying tons of powder. This then leaves your skin looks dry and mature because it has no natural glow. Instead try using a lightweight powder containing oil absorbing mica and silica. Also, applying too much powder accentuates the fine lines. 

Dark Lips

 Dark lips should be avoided especially browns and reds close to brown. Dark colors make you look older instantly. They also bring out the yellow in your teeth making you look even older. Try pinks, beiges which will brighten your face. Also try sheer lipglosses in rosy colors. 

Over-plucked Eyebrows

You should eyebrows that frame your face and lift you eye. Eyebrows that are too thin will make you look older. Try to find the right eyebrow shape to frame your face.

Makeup Tips For Your Face Shape

Oval Face

This is the ideal face shape because you can really try anything. The best way to take advantage of your oval shape is to bring out your best feature. Whether it is your eyes, lips, eyebrows ect. You really have nothing to worry about but you can try some of the tips below. 

Round Face

A round face has a shorter distance from the forehead to the chin, and wider from cheek to cheek. A round face has full cheeks and rounded chin. What you need to do is add a lengthening effect to your face by contouring the jaw line, temples and cheek for a more oval look. Remember that to contour you will use a color slightly darker than your foundation. This should never be more than two shades darker then your foundation. 

Square Face

Has the same width from the edges of the forehead, across the cheek and from jaw to jaw. Also a strong and broad forehead with angular jaw. You should use a darker shade to accentuate the central part of your forehead. Also contour the hairline on the temples and jaw at both corners in order to soften the corners. The color of your blush should be matte to reduce the appearance of the cheeks. 

Long Face

A long face has high cheek bones, raised forehead and distinct jaw line. The face is longer that is is wide. It is best to highlight the temples, cheeks, and bottom jaw. This will give the face more width. 

Triangular Shape

Has a narrow forehead and cheekbones and a wide jawline. You need to soften the lower part of your face. You should avoid emphasizing the cheeks or chin. Contour your temples
