Style Icon Saturday: Mary-Kate Olsen

For the first style icon muse, I chose Mary-Kate Olsen.  The way her effortless style and desheveled hair always seems to look perfectly put together amazes me.  She is gorgeous and the Daily Muse's first weekly style icon.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen: Dynamic Duo

Normally I write about specific trends that occur in the fashion world and on the streets. But this time, I am awing over two of my absolute favorite people. Anyone who knows me personally would have guessed who the "people" are, not by the title, but by speaking to me on a day-to-day basis.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been seen as legendary fashion icons to millions of people worldwide. The actresses-turned-designers have been recognized by big time magazines, such as People and Elle. Mary-Kate seems to get more recognition for this fashion icon "title." She makes "skinny girls in baggy people look cool," according to People magazine in 2005, when Mary-Kate was only 18. Now that the twins are 24, they have a lot more knowledge and interesting outfits under their belt. They have grown to become true names in the fashion industry, and are now the designers for three different lines; Elizabeth and James, The Row, and Olsenboye. For more information on these lines, check out my previous update about MK&A from October.
Although they both are known for layering and oversized outfits, it isn't ever overdone. They aren't afraid to ever push the boundaries of what styles are acceptable to society. The twins do their own thing when it comes to fashion, and that's what makes them stand out and become icons. Here are some pictures of their different styles:

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will always be an inspiration to me in many ways, especially as I move with my studies into the fashion industry myself. I will forever be fond of the dynamic duo.

Follow Friday: Refinery29

Refinery29 was the very first fashion blog I read and has only grown and improved since then.  It was a no-brainer to choose them as my first follow friday muse.

Cozy Sweaters

The temperatures are dropping in my area so all I can think about it staying warm and cozy.  Sweaters are necessary in this feat.

KatieErickson from Chictopia wears this Forever 21 sweater beautifully.

This cozy cocoon sweater from Nordstom looks so inviting to wrap up in.

Cute, colorful and handmade on Etsy

Would look amazing with some sheer tights, buy at Topshop.

I love how this J. Crew sweater has a special tie detail in the back.  I could see it looking perfect with black skinny jeans.

Kennedy H. looks so cozy in this on lookbook.

Velvet

I'm really loving velvet this winter for the first time since childhood.  I think it looks and feels lovely.

I'm lusting after this American Apparel dress.

This vintage velvet find by paulinemarie on Chictopia is incredible.

This Heritage 1981  fitted blazer would be a cozy fit into any wardrobe.

This 1960's velvet skirt from Revivalhouse on Etsy is listed for only $8. What a great stylish steal!

Peter Pan Collar

Peter Pan collars are so adorable and dainty.  However, I do not understand how they got their name.  The collar that Peter Pan wears appears to be nothing like the rounded ones that we consider to be "Peter Pan" today.  Oh well, they are just so cute!

On a side note, I love Disney Cartoons.  They are still so much fun to watch and the art and music is gorgeous, buy here.

This ASOS little black lace dress is gorgeous. I want it.

I love the way that phoebedoes from Chictopia layers her sweater and pulls the collar out over the top.

I have this blouse in cream from Urban Outfitters and it goes with everything. The sheer detailing on the sleeve is super pretty.

French Toast makes school uniforms for boys and girls and I think that their Peter Pan collar shirts are just so cute and would be perfect for layering.  Although they are in girls sizes, they carry up to size 20 so many of us could wear them. The best part is, they are so cheap.  This one is only 5.99 on Amazon. I'm buying now.

Heeled Oxfords + Jenny Lewis

Heeled oxfords are awesome and I need some.  Jenny Lewis is my ultimate girl crush and I absolutely love the way she wears these oxfords in this video.  They are to die for and so is all of her music. Buy this album here.

My attempt to screen shot the amazing shoes in the video.

I enjoy the wooden heel but these are a good option from Forever 21.

I tried these on in Target today and strutted around the store with "See Fernando" in my head.  They are super comfortable and affordable too!
