Follow Friday: Refinery29

Refinery29 was the very first fashion blog I read and has only grown and improved since then.  It was a no-brainer to choose them as my first follow friday muse.

Cozy Sweaters

The temperatures are dropping in my area so all I can think about it staying warm and cozy.  Sweaters are necessary in this feat.

KatieErickson from Chictopia wears this Forever 21 sweater beautifully.

This cozy cocoon sweater from Nordstom looks so inviting to wrap up in.

Cute, colorful and handmade on Etsy

Would look amazing with some sheer tights, buy at Topshop.

I love how this J. Crew sweater has a special tie detail in the back.  I could see it looking perfect with black skinny jeans.

Kennedy H. looks so cozy in this on lookbook.

Velvet

I'm really loving velvet this winter for the first time since childhood.  I think it looks and feels lovely.

I'm lusting after this American Apparel dress.

This vintage velvet find by paulinemarie on Chictopia is incredible.

This Heritage 1981  fitted blazer would be a cozy fit into any wardrobe.

This 1960's velvet skirt from Revivalhouse on Etsy is listed for only $8. What a great stylish steal!

Peter Pan Collar

Peter Pan collars are so adorable and dainty.  However, I do not understand how they got their name.  The collar that Peter Pan wears appears to be nothing like the rounded ones that we consider to be "Peter Pan" today.  Oh well, they are just so cute!

On a side note, I love Disney Cartoons.  They are still so much fun to watch and the art and music is gorgeous, buy here.

This ASOS little black lace dress is gorgeous. I want it.

I love the way that phoebedoes from Chictopia layers her sweater and pulls the collar out over the top.

I have this blouse in cream from Urban Outfitters and it goes with everything. The sheer detailing on the sleeve is super pretty.

French Toast makes school uniforms for boys and girls and I think that their Peter Pan collar shirts are just so cute and would be perfect for layering.  Although they are in girls sizes, they carry up to size 20 so many of us could wear them. The best part is, they are so cheap.  This one is only 5.99 on Amazon. I'm buying now.

Heeled Oxfords + Jenny Lewis

Heeled oxfords are awesome and I need some.  Jenny Lewis is my ultimate girl crush and I absolutely love the way she wears these oxfords in this video.  They are to die for and so is all of her music. Buy this album here.

My attempt to screen shot the amazing shoes in the video.

I enjoy the wooden heel but these are a good option from Forever 21.

I tried these on in Target today and strutted around the store with "See Fernando" in my head.  They are super comfortable and affordable too!

Show Me How You Burlesque!

Cher & Aguilera, stars of "Burlesque"
Christina Aguilera has really transformed over the years. In the beginning of her singing days, she was known as the "Dirrty" girl with somewhat skimpy outfits. Now, she is one of the most classy women on the red carpet. Aguilera has had amazing outfits and always changes up the style of her signature blonde hair. She is really taking her career to a new level lately, as well. The new big screen musical film, Burlesque, stars her and legendary singer, Cher. These two end up being a dynamic duo in the movie when Christina's character, Ali, is discovered in a burlesque club in Los Angeles.

Christina has transformed from this...
...to this.
For a tribute to Aguilera and her new step in her career, I decided to record myself on GarageBand singing a clip of one of her old songs, "Hurt." Give it a listen and let me know what you think! The legendary singer has one incredible voice that certainly cannot be topped.

Another Big Change in My Life.

I figured I would give a little more personal insight on my life for this post.

As apparent as it is on this blog, I am a fashion student who lives in NYC. I currently attend LIM College (Laboratory Institute of Merchandising). FIT, the Fashion Institute of Technology, was always my dream school from day one. After sleepless nights of worrying if I would get in or not, and bugging my friends constantly to tell me it would happen, I unfortunately didn't make it in last semester. I figured I would give it one more try, so I applied for the Spring '11 semester. I recently received a phone call from my mother that I had gotten a big letter in the mail with "Congratulations" on the envelope, and I went into shock mode. I actually made it into FIT. THE world-wide known Fashion Institute. From the tennis team, to the WFIT broadcasting club, it seems like a perfect fit even more.. one year later. LIM College is a wonderful school. I have learned so much this semester, even though none of my credits transfer. I guess knowledge really is power in this situation. Their marketing program is wonderful, and the professors are straight from the industry. But for financial purposes, more experiences, and more opportunities, I need to make the switch for myself, for my goals, and for my life long dreams and aspirations.

So as I take my very last final exam here at LIM College tomorrow, I will be saying "farewell" and "it's been real" to this great college, and hello to becoming an FIT Tiger. I am interested and excited to see what awaits me.
