Sculpting the face! No needles, No surgery, Only brushes and makeup!

So using makeup to sculpt and enhance the face shape has been around for quiet some time. This was alot in print and television, however, today it is still very popular and this can be seen by the various products offered.

In simple terms sculptinh works like this:
Contour: darker color to minimize or make appear thinner/slimmer
Highlight: lighter color to enhance or bring out

What do you need?
  • Foundation
  • a loose translucent powder
  • a foundation that is about 2 shades lighter than your skin color (liquid, powder or cream)
  • a foundation that is about 2 shades darker than your skin color (liquid, powder or cream)
  • GOOD lighting!!!!
If you have fair skin only go one shade lighter or darker, two shades will be too dramatic.

The powder might be quicker to work with, however, you must be very precise with where you place it because you can't move it after you put it on. I use powder I find it to be much quicker, however, for a special occasion and more dramatic effect liquid and foundation will work best.

Look at your face closely and decide which features you want to minimize or maximize.

Forehead:
If you want to narrow your forehead use the darker foundation on the temples of your forehaed and blend inward and towards your hairline.
If you want to widen your forehead to the same but with the lighter foundation.

Eyebrows:
If you have low eyebrows and want to make them appear higher, highlight them right under the arch. Blend downward, this will also make your eyebrows seem clean and nicely shaped as if you just did them.

Chin:
If you have a double chin or want to slim your chin, use the darker foundation and apply it right below the jaw line. Blend downward making sure to leave no harsh lines. Also, make sure it blends in with your neck.

Cheeks:
To bring out your cheeks bones and make your face appear slimmer use the darker foundation. Apply the foundation on your cheekbones, a good guide is to follow the middle of your ear, it should not go below this. Also just feel your cheekbone or just do the fish face. Blend it upward not downward. Next, use the lighter foundation to highlight the top of your cheek bone, make sure they both blend. IF you want to apply blush it should go where these two meet not above or below it.

Some people apply their foundation after this, while some do it after. You can try both and see with one works for you. If you apply your foundation over, the effects will definitely not be as dramatic and might not even show.

If you are using powder then do it over your foundation never under.

After you are done set with the transluscent powder.

Practice, practice, practice. Trust me if you have never done this before I do not recommend you trying it right before you are heading out. This is all about placement and blending, therefore, if it is not done right you will actually make your face shape look awkward and not natural .  So practice in advance and take some photos because you will be able to see any flaws.

Also, I cannot emphazise how important having a good lighting is. If you not have good lighting, do not do this because it is very hard to see what you are doing and you will then have harsh lines.

If you want to make sure your blending is perfect go outside (if it's not a cloudy day) and look in a  mirror, you will definitely see if you have any harsh lines or if it's not properly blended.

Another tip, if you are using cream or liquid foundation I recommend using makeup sponges, one for each color. But don't use cheap sponges, they will not work very well. Some great sponges are the ones from http://shop.mudshop.com/make-up-sponge . These are from the school I went to and they are truly awesome!
Until next time,
