Finger Paints Special Effects Twisted vs. Nubar 2010

I thought I would do a comparison of Twisted and Nubar 2010 because some people seem to think they look the same, but they look nothing alike!

Twisted on the index and ring finger, Nubar 2010 on middle and pinky.

This is one coat of Twisted over black and one coat of Nubar 2010 over black. As you can see the Nubar 2010 flakes are much smaller than the ones in Twisted. Also the flakes in Twisted are multicolored while the ones in Nubar 2010 are all the same color. These are definitely not dupes! So if you already have Nubar 2010, you can totally still get Twisted or any of the other Finger Paints Special Effects polishes!

But when you tilt your nails, Both Twisted and Nubar 2010 have a very strong green flash.

So they actually are pretty different. I like Twisted more; I think it's just way more festive and fun. I love that the flakes are all different colors opposed to all the same color. I do love Nubar 2010, but I love Twisted more at the moment lol

Some more fun with Finger Paints Special Effects Twisted!

Since Twisted is seriously my new favorite thing in the world, I've been playing around with is over different bases. Here are just a couple of things that I've tried.

I call this one Twisted Mayo! It's two coats of Twisted over one coat or Manglaze Mayo! I originally had it over OPI Alpine Snow, but I thought it needed a white with some shimmer behind it. It got a little wonky when I put Seche Over it tho. The Seche kind of settled into the flakes and wasn't smooth and any Mayo at the edges that didn't have Seche over it started to separate and was just strange. Also, as you can see the color flash wasn't so prevalent here because they base is so light, but you could definitely see it in the sun. In this picture, which you'll probably have to enlarge, the color flash looks more pastel, but that's just my camera, it was definitely brighter and not pastel in person. So overall, I think I actually like it better over Alpine Snow.

This is two coats of Twisted over one coat of nails inc Kensington. I chose Kensington because its a really nice dark teal that lends itself nicely to flakie polishes (obviously, since it's part of the Wyndham set). You can see how awesomeeeee two coats of Twisted really is. So many flakies, so awesome.

Two coats of Twisted over one coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black. The lighting might be kind of weird on this one, sorry about that.

This one is the same as above, but I wanted to show you the green/ yellow flash that happens when you tilt your nails.

So there you go, those are all my Twisted experiments (hah) for now. I'll probably be putting this over everything for a while since I love it so much and if I come up with any cool combos I'll definitely share them with you all.

Finger Paints Special Effects Twisted!

So this is my new favorite thing! In my last post I showed you Asylum, and today I have Twisted!

One coat of Twisted over one coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black (enlarge for detail). This one has multicolor flakes of various sizes. It really looks like a party on your nails. The flecks flash every color possible: red, blue, green, yellow, purple and orange. I love this one so much. I think it is a little more festive than Asylum because there are so many colors here. Also, this may look kind of similar to Nubar 2010, but it is supremely different! I'll get some comparison swatches and show you guys in another post.

Just like Asylum, this is also full of flakes and has great coverage. Everything that I noted for Asylum also applies here. Love the amount of flakes that you get per swipe, but dry time can be a bit longer even with a fast dry top coat. Other than the drying time bit, there's nothing negative about either of these polishes. Love them!

Finger Paints Special Effects Asylum!

So here comes the next big thing! Flakie polishes! This is definitely going to be the "crackle" of 2012, with a bunch of companies already coming out with flakie collections. The first to really come out with a full ' collection' is Finger Paints with their Special Effects collection. This collection has five different flakie top coats and I ended up buying two! Today I have Asylum for you!

One coat of Asylum over one coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black. You may have to enlarge this picture for more detail. This particular polish has mainly red and blue flakes, as you can see in the photo. If you look closely at the edges you can see the yellow and green flash. The blue also flashes purple which you can kind of see on my index finger. I really love the combination of colors in this one, I haven't seen a flakie polish like this before.

This polish is jam packed with flakes, it's amazing. Each coat gives you a nice, pretty even layer of flakes, I have one coat in the picture, but I actually prefer two. On the down side, it does take a while to dry, so a fast drying top coat definitely helps. Even with the top coat be careful, because even if your nails seem dry, you may dent or scratch off the polish if you're not careful.

The other colors in the collection are Twisted (my favorite, which I'll show you in my next post), Motley, Flecked and Flashy. Each have a different color combination of flakes, but they're all awesome. These are exclusive to Sally Beauty and should be available everywhere now. Flakies are definitely the new big thing, and I love it! These are $5.49 each, which is a pretty good price if you ask me.
