Happy Halloween! Ke$ha Nails!

Happy Halloween everyone! I love halloween, but sadly I didn't get home until 10:30 today so I had to completely miss it. :( But I did celebrate the halloweekend as Ke$ha! And I thought I would share my official halloween mani!

I love them. Everything here is pretty basic: Sinful Colors Black on Black, Revlon Silver Dollar, Manglaze Matte-astrophe, Revlon Golden, OPI Sanguine and OPI Simmer &Shimmer. For the Simmer & Shimmer, I used my blow pen technique. The only semi complicated thing is on both my middle fingers. On the top photo my middle finger is completely covered in gold leaf, and on the bottom photo the tip of the nail is gold leafed. I was inspired by this photo.  

In terms of the gold leaf, I bought a bag of gold leaf flakes at the craft store, not sheets of gold leaf. I first applied a base coat on my nail and while it was still wet I dipped my finger in the gold leaf and let them dry a little then smoothed it out. I did top it with Seche Vite, but it didn't do much, it was still rough after two coats. But it's really easy to do (even though the flakes tend to fly around everywhere) and looks really cool.

Fright Night Claw Polish, Orly Halloween Collection and Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner!

I was at my internship yesterday and we got a halloween pumpkin candy bucket thing filled with candy and costume jewelry and to my great surprise nail polish! So I jumped on it. It turned out to be one of the new Fright Night Claw Polishes.

This is Sinister, it is a black creme. Nothing special so I decided not to swatch it, I'm sure all of you know what black creme polishes look like. I do love the bottle though. I thought about buying a few of these when I saw then at some store then I decided against getting them. I am actually really impressed with the quality of the bottle, the glass is super thick. However, the cap is kind of annoying because it's such an awkward shape, it's kind of hard to find a comfortable way to hold it. 

These are the new Orly halloween polishes, they released this on facebook. Classic black and orange and then there's Goth, a black with multicolor glitter (as far as I can tell).

And now! Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner! I am super excited about this liner and I will tell you why...

First, the liner is liquid but it is in pen form! 

Second, the tip is a felt tip instead of a brush, so it is easier to control the line that you get.

This was swatched on bare skin. Now I'm not the makeup guru of We are the Wicked, but I just had to post this. You can see from the picture that is it really opaque and really nicely pigmented. Also, this dries SUPER fast and it does not smudge or budge. If you are a little eyeliner impaired like I am, you should definitely invest in this. I've used gel liners, but I feel like they take a little more skill and effort than I have, and I have also used e.l.f pen liners similar to this one, but the tip was a brush and they dried out really quickly. This liner also lasts a really long time, the first time I used it, it actually lasted 12 full hours which is crazy!

OPI Spookettes decals 2!

So I wanted to show you guys some of the other decals that came with Spookettes. Oh and sorry if anything is blurry and about the glare, it's cloudy and rainy and dark here, so I needed flash.

This is the spider, I did a black v looking tip, kind of like they show on the back of the Spookettes box.

Now this I found funny. Something OPI must have not thought about. You'll probably have to enlarge this to see what I'm talking about. So, this is the decal that says "trick or treat", and when you look at it on the paper, that's exactly what it said. But whoever thought of this didn't realize that when you transfer the decal onto your nail it comes out backwards! So all the words are backwards! Slight oops by OPI on this one. It's pretty funny actually.

I didn't use the bat ones yet, I really like them and think I want to save them for a mani that I'll actually keep on for a while.

Spider Web nail art!

So this is a really quick spider web that I did literally right before this post.

Two coats of OPI He's My Boo, then I used Sinful colors Black On Black with a very dirty nail art brush and just free handed this spider web design. I apologize that it's kind of sloppy because my brush was pretty dirty. So, there you go, I did this pretty quickly because I've just been really swamped this week. Not much else to say. It's easy to do, just make sure your brush is clean! I do like it though.

Blood Drip nails! New Stila nail polishes! OPI App update!

I really liked the Blood Splatter mani that I did, but I wanted to try and do something that looks like dripping blood. This is what I came up with.

So first I did two coats of OPI Mummy Knows Best, then I look Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Cherry Red and put a little blob of it at the top on my nails, then took a tooth pick and dragged it down. And then Seche to smooth it out.

Depending how you look at it, it could look like flames, which is cool too. I may have to try it with flame like colors and see if it still looks like fire. 

So, all of a sudden today everyone started tweeting and talking about Stila just coming out with nail polishes. I was at work, so I didn't have a chance to check my email but when I got home, there it was, an email from Stila about their nail polish. They came out with two, four polish collections.

And finally, OPI has updated their iPhone app. 

OPI announces the re-launch of the OPI Application for the iPhone® and iPod Touch®. The updated OPI App continues to offer an easy, free way to browse and search over 200 OPI nail lacquer shades – now at faster speeds. The Try It On Color Studio continues to provide a look at all current OPI shades, while the search feature now incorporates retired shades, allowing users to view past favorites and information about the year in which those hues were retired.

The updated OPI App also includes higher resolution images to further enhance visual displays. In addition to running faster, the application now has the capability to wait in the background while other programs are used, namely Facebook. This feature gives users the option to check OPI’s Facebook page without having to leave the OPI App.

OPI He's My Boo and LA Girls Uninhibited

So, I bought Uninhibited a while ago, but haven't really had a chance to wear it besides my original swatches. I figured it was perfect for halloween though.

One coat of LA Girls Uninhibited over two coats of OPI He's My Boo. Keeping up with the halloween theme with orange and black. I thought it was good opportunity to use the black glitter that is Uninhibited. It's not terribly exciting, I think I was expecting it to be a little more exciting, but that just didn't happen. 

But anyway, it's kind of halloweeny and looks speckled and kind of cool.

Zombie Nails!

After my blood splatter nails I was kind of at a loss and really could not even think of anything to do with my nails. But then it hit me. Due to my recent ridiculous obsession with Rick Genest aka Zombie Boy (look him up, seriously) I decided to do my version zombie nails.

The base coat is one coat of Sonia Kashuk Fatigued, which I have to say is awesome, I'll do a full review of it after my all halloween things ends. So then I used Sinful Colors Black on Black and one of my art brushes to do the "stitches". I may have been a little heavy handed with this and probably should have made the lines a little thinner. But I got the overall look across. I think I like this...it does have that zombie feel with the green grungey background that kind of reminds me of frankenstein haha

Blood Splatter nails!

I've been wanted to do a real splatter mani for a while now, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I tried about three different techniques and seriously nothing was working. You might remember the Paint Splatter nail art that I did a while back, which was hand made splatters, I wanted organic splatters this time. I saw a video of someone doing paint splatter with a pen, and I needed to try it. It was my last hope.

Success! The base is two coats of OPI I Only Date Werewolves for the black and for the white, two coats of OPI Mummy Knows Best. For the blood splatter I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Cherry Red. Then a coat of Seche to finish it all off. 

To do the actual splatter, I took apart a clicky pen and used the hollow pen shell (shown above) like a blow pen. So you just dip the tip of the pen into the polish and you blow into the pen like a blow pen! Be careful not to have the pen too close to your nail or you'll get big blobs, which you can see on my index finger. Also, you need to work a little quicker with this because the polish starts to dry and it just won't work. But it's really simple to do, takes really no effort and comes out awesome. I love how it looks like organic splatter.

I love this. It seriously looks like blood. It's cool and creepy and just plain awesome. These pictures are after 5 days of wear, and I only had minimal tip wear. I think that it looks a little bit better on the white, because you get more of a contrast and can see the smaller splatters a lot better. So, if I were to redo this, I'd probably just use white as a base.

OPI Spookettes: I Only Date Werewolves!

This is the last of the Spookettes! Finally got to the end!

I Only Date Werewolves, two coats. So this is black, yep just black. Average, nothing very exciting. The name is almost annoying because as much as I love werewolves, Twilight ruined it for me and now its just annoying. But anyway, the polish itself was good, really nicely opaque after two coats and the formula was good. Like Mummy Knows Best, it dried super fast. Always a plus. 

So that's it for Spookettes! What did you guys think about it? The stand outs for me were definitely Zom-Body to Love and He's My Boo.

OPI Mummy Knows Best and New OPI DS Shades and PInk Shatter!

It's an OPI-tastic night tonight! Firstly, continuing on with the Spookettes.

Mummy Knows Best, two coats. One of the average shades of the collection. I get why they put it there, but it is just white polish. 

The formula is good, but can be patchy if you don't get an even coat, which I found hard to do. A second coat smoothes it all out just fine. One thing that's really good about this polish is that it dries really quickly, definitely a plus. 

Next, the new DS  Shades.

Two new shades will be joining the Designer Series by OPI collection this upcoming fall – DS Temptation and DS Bold. Designer Series shades include vivid hues and sparkling, glitter-packed textures featuring OPI’s diamond-dust formula.

DS Temptation and DS Bold will be available beginning September 2011.

And Pink Shatter!

So I only did Black Shatter on one hand because I really wanted to do pumpkin nails! Now each hand is different, but that's pretty typical for me.

I've been looking forward to pumpkin nails ever since I bought my first pumpkin of the season lol

OPI He's My Boo!

Back to the Spookettes! After I kind of tireed this one out a couple of days ago for my candy corn design, I was really excited to do full swatches.

He's My Boo, two coats, no top coat. Wow! Super bright! I was so surprised with this polish because it looks so much lighter in the bottle than it actually is on the nails. The bottle looks a few shades lighter. The color is a true orange, which I hae not been able to find lately. It's not too red or too yellow.. just perfect pumpkin orange.

When I first opened the bottle, the polish looked like it would be pretty sheer and take a bunch of coats to be opaque, but that was not the case at all! This polish is so pigmented it's pretty ridiculous. Also, this polish is super shiny without a top coat.

The formula is great. The pigmentations is amazing, as I said and the polish has great coverage and it super smooth.

Then I decided to add Black Shatter for some black. How it definitely looks like halloween! This is definitely a must have for halloween. I think I'll make a list of must haves for halloween...

I also just got press releases for a bunch of new OPI and Nicole by OPI stuff. It actually reminded me to show you guys their other halloween set.

The Pair’em Scare’em duo pack will bring Zom-Body to Love and OPI’s bestselling Black Shatter together in a hair-raising pair. Inspired by graffiti art, Shatter leaves behind a crackled, two-texture finish when painted over completely dry OPI nail lacquer. The polishes in this set are both full sized. I debated about getting it instead of Spookettes for a while, but I already had Black Shatter and now that I know how awesome He's My Boo is, I'm totally happy with my decision.

Manglaze Mayo!

I was going to continue on with the OPI Spookettes, but then my Manglaze consolation prize came in the mail on Monday and it came with a mini of Mayo! I was so excited because I've been wanting to buy it since it was released but just never had the effort. But now I have it!

First, bottle shots! I always love the Manglaze bottle art.

Mayo, four coats. Kind of reminds me of a white wall, pretty cool. When you apply the polish it looks pretty iridescent and shiny, but then it dries and loses most of that. You can kind of see the sparkle in really direct sunlight, but just slightly. 

The formula was slightly sheer, that's why it took so many coats. I was debating about leaving it at three coats, but I kept looking at my nails and I could still see my nail beds which was just annoying so I had to do the fourth coat. Just to warn you, you need to let each layer dry before applying the next one or it will take forever to dry. Even though it may look dry because it becomes matte right away, it probably really isn't dry. So just beware of that.

But I couldn't break my all Halloween nail challenge, so I had to add to the Mayo! I was going to do a ghost but then got lazy and did candy corn instead! The yellow is Sally Hanses Insta-Dri in Lightening and the orange is OPI He's My Boo, from Spookettes. I did it all free hand pretty quickly, so excuse any not completely straight lines. Should I do all my nails like this? Hmm, I think its really cute. Definitely like it more than I thought I would.

So next the nest post will be He's My Boo. After I used it today, I'm pretty impressed and excited about really testing it out.

OPI Spookettes: Zom-body To Love!

I love OPI's halloween sets, they're always really cute and usually filled with some really nice colors. I saw this one and I couldn't help but get it.

This set comes with four mini bottles and some halloween themed sticker/decals for your nails.

Left to right:

He's My Boo- lighter orange

Mummy Knows Best- white

I Only Date Werewolves- black

Zom-body To Love- glow in the dark green

This is the back of the box, it has descriptions of all the colors and also how to replicate the looks on the back. You'll probably have to enlarge the pictures to get full details.

This is obviously completely Halloween themed. I haven't looked at the decals yet, I'm going to save those for when it's actually closer to Halloween and then I'll show you guys.

The first one I tried was Zom-body To Love. I couldn't help it. I LOVE glow in the dark polishes.

You can see the fluorescent stuff at the bottom of the bottle, so make sure to shake it up really well.

You probably should enlarge this one and the next one, but I decided to use I Only Date Werewolves to make a little ghost on my ring finger. He was so cute, but super hard to get a close up on camera.. it kept coming out super blurry so I had to settle for a farther away shot.

One thing about this polish, as with a lot of glow in the dark polishes, if you hold it up to the light before turning off the lights, the polish will glow so much brighter.

The formula on this was a bit rough and slightly gritty, but that's probably from the fluorescent pigment. I did not use a top coat, I just left it on its own. It's also pretty sheer so you'll need at least three coats for full coverage depending on how thick your coats are, but in the dark it doesn't look sheer at all so it's really nothing to worry about. Also, the color in normal light is exactly like what you see in the bottle in the first picture (I forgot to take a picture of it in normal light, I got over excited about the glow in the dark stuff). The only issue I have, and it's not even a real issue... but the name.. it just reminds me of Justin Bieber and kind of drives me crazy! 

Overall. I just think the set it super cute and could be great to give as favors for a Halloween party or something. As I said, I really like OPI Halloween sets, even though this one comes with black and white which is kind of a cop out, but I'm excited to try He's My Boo because I need a decent orange! But I have to tell you guys, when I was wearing Zom-body To Love my favorite thing was going to bed so that I could stare at my nails in the dark lol

Wet N' Wild Cougar Attack

Happy first day of October!!! (It's actually also National Dessert Month!) I've created a personal challenge for myself this month, every post I do will be Halloween themed! I'm really excited and I have some really fun ideas.

But, first and foremost Cougar Attack from the Wet n' Wild Prowl collection.

As you can see form the bottle, it looks like a black base with orange glitter, but that's a trick! I guess that totally goes with the halloween theme, the bottle tricks you but the polish is a treat... yeahh.

Cougar Attack, two coats. The base  is actually a semi sheer brown base and the glitter is a coppery orange. I was really surprised at how much I liked this polish. I really wasn't very excited about it in the bottle. I was ready to layer it over black, thinking it wasn't going to be opaque but I was very pleasantly surprised when I tested it out on my sister lol. Its very opaque in two coats because the glitter is so dense and the base is dark enough to become opaque when layered.

The formula is pretty thick because of the glitter, not too thick, but more so than I expected. It goes on smooth with good coverage, but be careful not to move it around a lot or you can get some empty spots. The glitter stays put and this polish dries super fast! That was a great feature. But is does dry a little dull so it needs a top coat.

Overall, I really like this polish. The combination of the brown with coppery orange is pretty original, I haven't seen another polish like it. It has that great fall look without being too halloween, which is really nice. Also, I really love the name. In high school our mascot was the cougar so I have an affinity for them...but also just the fact that it's called Cougar Attack is freaking awesome!

Halloween 2010

I must say, being in the city for Halloween is more entertaining than I thought it would be. In the morning, I was in Staten Island and woke up to trick-or-treaters at the door. Apparently New Yorkers trick-or-treat all day.. not back in Ohio! We have a set time- 6-8PM to go around the neighborhood. How weird how different the world is over here..
The girls and I decided to go to the parade in the Village and then the festival, yet couldn't find the exact location of both. On the way though, we saw some amazing costumes. Monsters, clowns, bloody brides, Peewee Herman, Transformers, etc. Every costume imaginable took over the subway systems and Union Square. Fashion was a big part of that night, and just seeing all the different costumes was better than watching the parade anyway. To top off my night, I stayed tuned to the live event of my favorite show, Ghost Hunters. Great night, none the less. I hope everyone else's Halloween was just as fabulous as mine!
