Jesse's Girl Glee

This is one of the polishes that I mentioned from my nail polish haul post.

 

Two coats of Glee over Sinful Colors Black on Black. It's a sheer blue base with tons of foily glitter that shifts from green to blue. I tried to take pictures of as many angles as possible so that you could see the green, blue and teal color shifts. You can see the different colors in the bottle, but it isn't that strong on the nail. I think with three or four coats it could be opaque on its own, but haven't tried it out yet.

This was my first Jesse's Girl polish and I really like it. The formula was nice and the glitter gets evenly distributed on the nail. Also the glitter isn't too densely packed, which allows you to decide how much of it you actually want. Dry time was also great, dried really quickly, even with two coats.

I really like the look of this, it looks like a metallic foil and is really pretty. I also love the color shift, teal is my favorite color so I was all up on that!

Gradient and Leopard Print!

I finally learned the trick to gradient nails!

 

Yes! The polishes I used are Sally Hansen Blue It, Sinful Colors Black on Black, OPI Alpine Snow and Milani Twinkle.

For the gradient nails, I did two coats of Blue It then took a make up sponge, painted a strip of Black on Black and a strip of Blue It and then blotted it on my nail until it looked blended. I could have blotted a little bit more, now that I look back.

Then I did a freehand leopard print on my ring finger. I did a coat of Black on Black as the base then made some spots of Twinkle (which took a little maneuvering of glitter), then used Alpine Snow and a tooth pick to draw the spot outlines. I found that it was much easier to use a toothpick than a detailing brush. A dotting tool would also work, I just don't have one. 

Then I did a coat of Essie Good To Go on every nail. This mani actually lasted almost a week and I did not pick at it once! I really like how it turned out and I'll definitely be trying out some other gradients!

Milani One Coat Glitter in Twinkle!

The other half of my BOGO1/2 Milani purchase

 

pinky- three coats of Twinkle over black

ring- two coats of Twinkle over black

middle- one coat of Twinkle over black

pointer- one coat of Tinkle

Twinkle is little blue hex glitter and small, round purple glitter in a clear base. As you can see it is kind of far from a one coat glitter. I did take a picture of about four coats on its own, but it was horrible and I didn't have the heart to put you through that. All I have to say is that it takes at least three thick coats and maneuvering to get it to be completely opaque.

Other than the lack of being one coat, the formula on it was good and dried pretty fast. I like the colors in the glitter, it's pretty similar to a nails inc. polish but not a dupe. I'm very attracted to purple glitter at the moment, not sure why... but I'm not complaining.

Milani FX Jewel Lavender

I've been eyeing some of the new Milani FX Jewel polishes lately, but haven't had the stomach to pay almost $6 each at CVS. But then! CVS decided to have a BOGO1/2 on all Milani products! Woohooooo, so I decided to be a creep and scope out the polishes that I wanted before the actual sale started.

 

Milani FX Jewel in Lavender over China Glaze Smoke and Ashes (I was too lazy to remove it, good thing it's a black background!) I believe this is one coat on pointer, two coats on middle and so on and so forth. It doesn't look like much a difference though. This is lavender larger hex glitter and smaller round glitter in a clear base. You can click the picture to enlarge it, and if the glitter looks a little blue that's just my camera. It's completely lavender in person.

I really love the color of it, and the formula is good. The glitter lies flat and dries pretty quickly. Not much more you can ask for from a glitter!

Nail of the Week!

Here it is!

 

The base is two coats of Zoya Dove, then I used Milani FX Jewel in Gems for the accent. It's supposed to be like a glitter half moon manicure. It came out better the first time I did it, this time I tried a different way of shaping the glitter. I also did a coat of Essie Good To Go as my top coat. 

The fist time I did it I used Brucci Alexandra's "Hot" Gray, which chips much more quickly than Dove.

I really like the combo of glitter and grey polishes, the grey was pretty boring by itself. It's not the season for greys.

Wet n Wild Spoiled For CVS Trust Fund Baby!

The last of the Spoiled glitters that I got, there is one more but it is sold out everywhere! And I think I kind of need it haha

 

Macro of Trust Fund Baby.  This is a clear base with medium hexagonal blue, black and gold glitter and square pink/magenta glitter. Man, I love square glitter, cannot get enough of it. There really should be more square glitter in the world.

As you can see, this glitter is pretty sparse in one coat, but is decent in two. You do need to do the dabbing thing just like with the other two glitters. Formula is just like the others, kind of goopy and the brush is also uneven and pretty bad. 

I do like the colors, I don't have a glitter with these same colors. Pretty interesting combo.

Wet n Wild Spoiled For CVS Jewelry Heist!

Another late post, almost forgot again *sighs*

 

Marco of Jewelry Heist. This is a clear base with larger rose gold and gold hexagonal pieces, smaller round rose gold and gold glitter and smaller square holo glitter.

The formula on this was like Pet My Peacock, pretty thick and kind of hard to work with. Glitter tends to clump together and not spread out evenly and too many coats of this polish gets really goopy.  Again, you have to dab the glitter on to get it more evenly distributed. The brush is also wonky like the other Spoiled polishes that I have tried. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that all the brushes are pretty crappy. 

An upside is the glitter. I love the color combination and the different shapes. I definitely do not have another glitter like this. I love love love the little square holo glitter, it's something you don't see everyday and really adds something special.

Wet n Wild Spoiled For CVS Pet My Peacock!

So, I almost forgot that I had to do a post today. Whoops, I fail, but good thing I remembered so lets get on with it shall we? Oh, I would suggest enlarging the pics so you can see them better.

This is a clear base with purple, blue, tealy-green, silver and light gold hexagonal glitter.

This is a kind of chunky glitter, it's not really chunky per say, just the glitter/sequin pieces are pretty big. I love the color combination it definitely reminds me of a peacock. 

Now, the downsides. The formula is pretty bad, kind of thick and you don't get much glitter per swipe. What you have to do is get as much base off your brush as you can while still keeping most of the glitter and the easiest way to get a more even coat of glitter is to dab it on your nails instead of actually painting your nails. Also, the brush is like the one in Bite Me, unevenly cut and wide and just not that great.

But I do really like the color, so it's not a complete loss. I can work around a crappy formula. Now that I think about it, some nail polish thinner might actually really help. I'll have to try that and report my findings!

Milani Jewel FX Gems!

Another one I've had in my stash since around September but just haven't swatched. Actually I did swatch it a few weeks ago but chipped it all off before I actually got photos. Womp. But I have them now so rejoice!

Gems, three coats. So this is a SUPER dense glitter in a clear base. There are large hexagonal pieces in silver, pink, light blue, green, orange and yellow and smaller round pieces in red, silver and dark blue. Being really dense it does take less coats to get it opaque, and being a glitter is dries pretty fast. So you really get the best of most worlds with this one. The glitter spreads pretty evenly, you may have to move a little bit around just to fill in any random empty corners. Also it lays flat of your nail which is awesome. I used two coats of Seche on top. I've never used more than one layer of Seche over anything, but it really does make a difference in smoothing it out. Since there is so much glitter, it is a little rough but the top coat definitely helps with that. And for me, the smoother is it, the less likely I am to pick at it! The one negative about it is because it is so dense it gets cakes on to the neck of the bottle and occasionally chips off and leaves glitter everywhere and it also makes the bottle a little hard to close/open and dip the brush fully into. 

While I'm in my glitter phase, this is a crazy must have. It's pretty much a dupe for Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday, there are a few differences but I don't the differences are worth spending $16 on, but that's just me. I found this at a Duane Reade for $4.99 I think and it was the last one. There may be a few of these still floating around, but if you can't find them in person, I think cherryculture.com still has them in stock.

LA Colors Color Craze Sparkling Diamonds

I've also had this polish for quite some time, but just haven't posted it (kind of the story of my life). Originally I was looking for OPI Crown Me Already from their Miss Universe Collection but it was sold out everywhere, it was sad, but one store did have this and I knew it was similar.

Sparkling Diamonds, three or four coats (can't really remember). I also didn't recall these pictures being blurry so sorry about that. So this is larger and smaller round silver glitter in a clear base. 

This is one coat of Sparkling Diamonds over Sinful Colors Black on Black. You can see how dense the glitter is, so it's not that great as a layering glitter unless you like that jam packed with glitter look.

Forever 21 Silver Swatches and Review

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a productive Black Friday/ Cyber Monday! I slept on Black Friday so yeah...unproductive. But I do have some pretty cool glitter to show you today.

One coat of Forever 21 Silver over two coats of Revlon Carbonite. Yes. So, yeah Forever 21 polish names are super terrible and not at all creative. Actually I thought it was called Disco Ball because that's what I recalled seeing on the website, but I guess not. But anyway, this is obviously a holo. It has bigger hexagonal glitter and smaller round pieces in a clear base. The pictures came out kind of strange, its definitely more holo in person and has that rainbow range(you kind of get it in the bottom picture). It's kind of reminiscent of China Glaze Snow Globe from the Let it Snow collection. 

It definitely adds some dimension to silver glitters which I really like. 

The formula was normal, nothing extraordinary since it is a regular clear base. Sometimes the glitter clumps together and doesn't spread over the nail evenly. When doing multiple coats you'll probably have to move and spread the glitter around with the brush. But yeah, sparkly and holo and $2.80.. what's not to like?

Your Guide to Glitter!

So I completely forgot that I had to post today! Hah. Silly me. So sadly, I don't have anything really productive to show you, so how about we just talk about my new obsession, GLITTER!! 

As I'm writing this and very much rambling about nothing, I got the idea for Your Guide to Glitter! There are so many different types, shapes and sizes and they come in a million different bases. Clear bases, jelly bases, sheer bases, creme bases...anything and everything. 

Here are some types of glitter:

1. Holographic- This kind of glitter can be any shape or size. The thing that makes it holographic is that it is a multichrome and flashes all the wonderful colors of the rainbow.  

2. Flakie- Flakies are larger pieces/ particles that are usually duochrome or multichrome. They are also very organically shaped, not round or perfectly cut out like normal glitter. I love love love flakies. 

3. Micro glitter- This is super tiny glitter that you can find pretty much anywhere. You can have a polish that is just micro glitter, or you can have it mixed in with larger glitter. 

4. Shimmer- This is super super super fine glitter that is mixed in to colored polishes.

5. Bar glitter- This is glitter that is shaped like bars or strings, usually holographic. Bar glitter polishes have been popping up a lot lately and I love them.

OPI He's My Boo and LA Girls Uninhibited

So, I bought Uninhibited a while ago, but haven't really had a chance to wear it besides my original swatches. I figured it was perfect for halloween though.

One coat of LA Girls Uninhibited over two coats of OPI He's My Boo. Keeping up with the halloween theme with orange and black. I thought it was good opportunity to use the black glitter that is Uninhibited. It's not terribly exciting, I think I was expecting it to be a little more exciting, but that just didn't happen. 

But anyway, it's kind of halloweeny and looks speckled and kind of cool.

Wet N' Wild Cougar Attack

Happy first day of October!!! (It's actually also National Dessert Month!) I've created a personal challenge for myself this month, every post I do will be Halloween themed! I'm really excited and I have some really fun ideas.

But, first and foremost Cougar Attack from the Wet n' Wild Prowl collection.

As you can see form the bottle, it looks like a black base with orange glitter, but that's a trick! I guess that totally goes with the halloween theme, the bottle tricks you but the polish is a treat... yeahh.

Cougar Attack, two coats. The base  is actually a semi sheer brown base and the glitter is a coppery orange. I was really surprised at how much I liked this polish. I really wasn't very excited about it in the bottle. I was ready to layer it over black, thinking it wasn't going to be opaque but I was very pleasantly surprised when I tested it out on my sister lol. Its very opaque in two coats because the glitter is so dense and the base is dark enough to become opaque when layered.

The formula is pretty thick because of the glitter, not too thick, but more so than I expected. It goes on smooth with good coverage, but be careful not to move it around a lot or you can get some empty spots. The glitter stays put and this polish dries super fast! That was a great feature. But is does dry a little dull so it needs a top coat.

Overall, I really like this polish. The combination of the brown with coppery orange is pretty original, I haven't seen another polish like it. It has that great fall look without being too halloween, which is really nice. Also, I really love the name. In high school our mascot was the cougar so I have an affinity for them...but also just the fact that it's called Cougar Attack is freaking awesome!

Wet N' Wild Behind Closed Doors

I got this polish and another one I'm saving for October lol from the Wet n' Wild On The Prowl collection for halloween! Now, I love halloween more than I can even express in words, so when I see something halloween related, I need it. No questions asked.

One coat of Behind Closed Doors over one coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black. I did a semi-crappy job because I did the base coat at like 11pm in half lighting and then it smudged and stuff, so sorry about that. But anyway, Behind Closed Doors has a blacked jellyish base and has small round red glitter and large red hexagonal glitter. Does this look familiar? Yep, looks just like Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers! A cheap alternative. It's only $1.99! This will be going on the dupe list that I'm working on, plus many others. So keep an eye out for that.

Back to the polish, there a few irregular pieces that just look like they were supposed to hexagons but were cut strangely. Also, sometimes the polish isn't very evenly distributed so you'll have a lot of glitter on one side of your nail but not much on the other, so just be aware of that. 

But look at this! Just my luck I got a really wonky brush. It's bent! I have no idea how this would even happen lol looking at it kind of makes me laugh though. It doesn't really affect putting the polish on too much because not a full coverage polish. 

Other than this, I didn't find any problems with the polish at all. I actually went back to where I bought this and they were all sold out! So, I'm happy I got it when I did. If you want it, you may have to search around!

Glitter Gradient!

I've been meaning to do a gradient look for a while now, and I figured I'd start out with one using a glitter.

This is Forever 21 nail polish in Silver over two coats of Essie Dive Bar. About the glitter in general, Its really fine silver and holo glitter in a clear base. The glitter is pretty packed in there, but doesn't quite get opaque if you layer it since it is so fine. The holo in this is freaking amazing and beautiful and I love it. Saw it, had to buy it.

Now in term of the gradient, first I did the two coats of Dive Bar and let them dry and then I did an all over coat of glitter, then another coat starting about half way down my nail, then a last coat at the very tip. So the father down the nail, the more coats of glitter I had. I finished it off with Seche Vite. It looks really cool in the sunlight as you can see from the picture, but my camera failed to capture in it the shade, it definitely doesn't look that sandy, but it definitely shines (figuratively and literally) in the sunlight. 

So, that's my first gradient, I think it came out rather well. It might have been a little better if the glitter wasn't so dense. I'll have to try with some cremes and other things.

LA Girls Uninhibited

We've finally made it! The last one!

One coat of Uninhibited over one coat of Brucci Alexandra's "Hot" Gray. I have never seen a black glitter before and that's why I had to get this. It's a clear base with various sizes of black glitter. It's not really sparkly or anything, but thats not too unexpected since it is black. It looks pretty cool and reminds me of a speckled egg or something. I think it would look really cool over red or hot pink! And now that my nails are short (as you'll see a while from now, the nest few posts will have pictures that I took before I cut them off) I might try just the glitter and see how that looks.

LA Girls Supernova

The final Rockstar polish, a fantastic "glitter".

Supernova, three or four coats (can't really remember). I love this, it's that stringy confetti type glitter, a lot like Sally Hansen In the Spotlight but way thinner pieces. Super holo and overall awesome. It has a sheer base that's tinted probably with black so it looks like a super super super sheer grey. Enlarge it to get a better look, sorry if it's a little blurry.

Here are both glitters side by side over three coats of Groupie. Index and middle have one coat of Double Platinum (see how dense it is?!! Awesome!). Ring and pinky have one coat of Supernova. You can really see how holo it is. 

Overall, I love these both. Very holo, very cool. Both had pretty much the same formula, smooth and apply evenly. They just have different base colors and amount of glitter.

LA Girls Double Platinum

Out of the four Rockstar polishes that I got, two are glitters! This is the first one.

Double Platinum, four coats. This has a sheer base with an almost gold tint to it and its chock full of silver and holo glitter and micro glitter. It's most likely meant to be a layering glitter but it is very pretty on its own. It would take a lot to make this completely opaque but if your nails are short enough or if you don't mind your tips showing, then this is just fine. It really bothers me when my tips show so it'd have to do way more coats.

You definitely NEED to enlarge this to see the awesome holo glitter. It's amazing, I love it. I tried this one over a few of the other LA Girls polishes that I got and it's great(you'll see one of those in my next post). This is definitely a quality glitter.

Sally Hansen Ice Queen

A very early post today! This one was a very random, unplanned purchase for me. I was in Walgreens looking for something else, which my Walgreens sadly didn't have. I also realized that no one goes to my poor Walgreens because they still have a full stock of Revlon Black with Envy! So crazy. Anyway, I always look at the displays first and this caught my eye.

Look familiar? Definitely reminded me of something.

Yes! Deborah Lippmann's Glitter in the Air! 

They're definitely similar, but Ice Queen is far from being a dupe. They both have the pink and blue larger hexagonal glitter and silver micro glitter. On the other hand, Glitter in the Air has a milkier base, while Ice Queen has a clear base. Also, Ice Queen has silver micro glitter and holo micro glitter. And the colors of the larger glitter vary somewhat. Glitter in the Air has baby blue and baby pink, very soft shades, while Ice Queen has a more cerulean blue and orchid pink/purple that are more vibrant.

Two coats of Sally Hansen Ice Queen over one coat of Brucci Alexandra's "Hot" Gray. The larger glitter is pretty sparse so you definitely nee the two coats and you really need to make sure that you have glitter on the brush, or you'll end up with none. 

Overall, it's a pretty good glitter. The larger pieces are a little sparse, but it's not too  bad to deal with. It dries pretty quickly, but definitely use a top coat, preferably a fast drying one. I do think it's a decent alternative to Glitter in the Air and at $1.99 you really can't go wrong.
